Stone Camel

The beautiful little town in which Dave was staying was called "Pietracamela", liturally "Stone Camel". It took it's name from the two humped "camel" shaped mountain on which it sat.

Italian lesson:-

Pietra - Stone
Camela - Camel
Pietrafied - Dave climbing up the Stone Camel mountain.

Despite it's obvious beauty, Dave was saddened to learn that the town was doomed. It had a current population of 50 people, with only around 10 under 30 years old. The mayor himself predicted only 20 years left of life in the village, as the young would abandon it for greener lands and the old would pass away. The majority of the town now belonged to tourists who visited once every few years. There were no schools, no shopping centers, no entertainment.

And yet one of the mayors chief concerns was that he thought the lighting in the mill should be a "softer white, not a yellow, but softer than the white it is now."

Mmmm, you went to Italy to attend Stats conference. What were you doing in a little town with no schools? Is it the place were your conference took place?

Btw, you havent mentioned anything about Italian food. What do you have to say on Italian pizza?

Ah... Italian Pizza... yeah, they didn't give me any. They gave me alot of pasta though, that was nice. And Tirimisu, which was alot nicer than from Tesco, probably because the real Italian version doesn't have any alcohol in it and I can't stand alcohol in sweets.
(There was actually quite a big discussion about how to make it, with the number of eggs needed ranging from 0 to 6, but EVERYONE agreed, NO alcohol.)

The conference took place in the town hall. The guy who organised the whole thing, his wife was born in the town and since they are desperate for people it was a very reasonable price. (350 euros for a full week of accomadation and three restaurant meals a day)
